Virginia Cain

Virginia “Ginny” Alig Cain is serving her 2nd term on the Council having been elected in November 2003 to represent the new 5th District.  She remains committed to public safety, infrastructure needs, economic development and accountability in government. Cain serves on the Parks and Recreation Committee, Chairs the new Ethics Committee and is the Council liaison to Indianapolis Downtown Inc.

Ginny is a 4th generation native of Indianapolis.  She graduated from North Central High School.  Cain earned her B.S. degree from Northwestern University and her J.D. law degree from Indiana University School of Law.  It was during her time in law school that she met and married her husband, David Cain.

Cain formerly worked for United States Senators Richard Lugar and Dan Coats in Constituent Services overseeing the areas of housing, veterans, and post office issues.  Cain was promoted to Assistant State Director for U.S. Senator Coats where her duties included travelling the middle 33 counties of Indiana on his behalf as well as being on the projects staff.

Ginny was then promoted to motherhood with the birth of her son, Daniel and then 3 years later the birth of her daughter, Joy.  She has been a “stay at home” mom ever since.

Ginny has been involved with many community organizations.  She currently serves on the boards of Wheeler Mission Ministries; Heartland:  Truly Moving Pictures; and the National Society of Colonial Dames – Indiana Society.  She and her family attend Walnut Grove Chapel.  She is also a member of The Players (theatre group), DAR, The Propylaeum Club, and she co-leads a neighborhood Bible Study.
